Location

Known as ‘the green heart of Italy’, Umbria’s rolling hillside hides fascinating medieval cities and architectural splendours. Pietralunga is ideally located to enjoy many of these - from the main cities of Perugia and Arezzo, to the basilicas of Assisi, and from the historic towns of Citta di Castello and Gubbio, to romantic hill-top villages such as Montone, as well as providing easy access to Tuscany and the beaches at Fano. The region is also famed for its delicious local gastronomy - discover the joys of Pietralunga’s truffles, wild boar, and local Umbrian wines, from regions like Orvieto and Montefalco. Pietralunga, the local village, is a scenic 10 minutes drive. Here one can find smaller specialty shops such as a bakery, butcher, a tobacco shop (also for local mobile phone SIM cards), supermarket, pharmacy a number of cafe's, and a few restaurants, including a number of traditional trattorias offering basic, authentic, yet delicious Pizzas and Pastas.

Every Friday there is a market in the Piazza with fresh fruits and vegetables. Wines, truffles, fresh eggs, honey and other natural products can be bought directly from various farms in the area.

Montone is a perfect hill-top village from which to watch the sunset. Citta di Castello is also a nearby walled town with some intersting shops and restarurants. Gubbio is over 2,500 years old where you can explore the winding streets between palazzos. Assisi, the birthplace of St Francis is a perfect place for lunch. Perugia and Spello are also nearby and offer some excellent site-seeing and eateries (Michelin starred in Spello). Many of the surrounding towns have antique and food markets on the weekends, in addition you can do a day trip to the factory outlets (including Prada, Gucci, Tod’s) if you really feel you need to shop.
